The Bundesliga's all-time leading foreign goalscorer Claudio Pizarro has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at SV Werder Bremen until 30 June 2017.

"I feel great and I'm delighted to be able to play for this special club for another year," the 37-year-old Peru international striker told WERDER.TV. "It's been a tough year, but also a great one for me and I hope we'll be able to finish higher up the table for the fans and the city next season. I'll give everything to make that happen."

While Bremen had to wait until the final day to secure their top-flight status, Pizarro finished the season as Bremen's top scorer on 14 goals, usurping Marco Bode as the club's record Bundesliga goalscorer in the process (103 goals in 187 appearances).

"We're very happy that Claudio, as a key figure with all his experience and quality, is going to be a part of the team next season," enthused Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin.

The new campaign will represent Pizarro's eighth in Werder colours.
