FC Bayern München left-back David Alaba has been chosen as Austria’s Footballer of the Year for the sixth successive year.

"It's a huge honour for me," said Alaba, 24, who was voted as the clear winner ahead of Christian Fuchs (Leicester City FC), Marko Arnautovic (Stoke City FC) and Zlatko Junuzovic (SV Werder Bremen) in a survey of the ten coaches in the Austrian top flight by news agency APA.

"Being voted as your country's footballer of the year for six years running says everything," said Bayern executive board chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We're proud and pleased that David has played for such a long time for FC Bayern and that he will continue to do so in the future."

Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti also expressed his delight: "It's a wonderful confirmation of his outstanding performances for several years."

Alaba won the domestic double with FC Bayern for the fourth time in 2015/16 as well as representing his country at UEFA EURO 2016.
