Teenage defender Marco Friedl was handed his competitive Bayern Munich debut in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League group match with Anderlecht.

Friedl started at left-back in Brussels, lining up alongside established first-team defenders Niklas Süle, Jerome Boateng and Joshua Kimmich.

The 19-year-old was named on the substitutes' bench in five of Bayern's opening six league games this season, but had yet to make an appearance for the first team prior to the 2-1 victory at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

Born in Austria in March 1998, Friedl joined the German record champions' academy in the summer of 2008 at the same time as David Alaba, who took the youngster under his wing both on and off the pitch.

"Friedl is like a little brother to me," said Alaba, who has lifted six league titles and a Champions League crown since breaking into the first team in 2010. "If he stays determined, he can do it too."

Friedl has featured 87 times for the Bayern reserves, Under-19s and U-17s to date, registering 13 goals and six assists.
