Hannover made a winning return to the Bundesliga with Martin Harnik netting the only goal in their 1-0 win at Mainz.

Mainz 0-1 Hannover

Goals: 0-1 Harnik (73')

Stefan Bell headed an early chance wide for the hosts, who enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes without earning any reward for their efforts. Hannover raised their game in the second half, though, and it was Harnik who silenced the Opel-Arena with his first goal back in the top flight, after netting 17 in Bundesliga 2 last season, poking the ball in from close range for victory.
