Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen have bolstered their defensive ranks for the coming campaign with the signing of Germany Under-19 captain Jonathan Tah.

"A great club"

The 19-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Bundesliga 2 outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

"Jonathan Tah is a hugely talented central defender, who gained important match practice whilst on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf last term and proved himself to be an integral part of the team," explained Bayer 04 sporting director Rudi Völler. "He's a great future investment, but Jonathan also has the quality to play an immediate role. A lot of clubs were interested in him, so we're even more delighted that he decided to join Bayer 04 Leverkusen."

Tah, who made 16 Bundesliga appearances all told for former club Hamburg, was just as enthusiastic about what the future holds: "I'm delighted to be here. Bayer 04 is a great club and I believe I can make the next step here. I know a few of the lads here already, I'm sure I'll settle down quickly."
