The goalkeeper, who holds dual German and American citizenship, currently plies his trade for US college outfit California Golden Bears and has won 21 caps for the USA Under-20 side.
The 20-year-old played every minute of the Stars and Stripes' recent FIFA Under-20 World Cup campaign in South Korea, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to finalists Venezuela at the quarter-final stage.
He has previously had trials with Bundesliga 2 champions Stuttgart - one of his father's former clubs - as well as English Premier League duo Everton and West Ham United.
"We want to get to know him, especially our goalkeeping coach Zsolt Petry," Hertha head coach Pal Dardai told Sport Bild. "That is why he is going on trial with us."
"He wants to play in the Bundesliga or another top league," said Klinsmann Snr., who was relieved of his duties as USA coach in November last year. "Obviously he has contacts in Germany, but he’ll have to see what the best sporting decision is for him.
"He’s certainly happy to jump in at the deep end."
