John Anthony Brooks has a taken a step closer to making his Bundesliga debut for Wolfsburg by returning to team training.

The USMNT defender tore a thigh tendon just days before the start of the season, but he is in line for a comeback earlier than the forecast three-month absence after picking up training on Monday.

The central defender became the most expensive USA footballer ever when he moved from Hertha Berlin to the Wolves in the summer, yet aside from a handful of preseason outings and his debut in the first round of the DFB Cup – when he picked up his injury - he has yet to make his first Bundesliga appearance for his new club.

Wolfsburg travel to Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 8. That fixture may still come too early for the 24-year-old stopper, but a long-awaited Bundesliga debut is now moving even closer on the horizon.
