Wolfsburg received a boost on Wednesday in the form of returning defensive duo John Anthony Brooks and Jeffrey Bruma.

Both players came through a full session of first-team training unscathed following lengthy spells on the sidelines.

USA international centre-back Brooks - a summer signing from hometown club Hertha Berlin - suffered a torn tendon in his right thigh in Wolfsburg's DFB Cup first-round win over Norderstedt back in August, while Bruma has been out of action since March following surgery on a left knee ligament injury.

Although neither player is expected to feature for the visit of Hoffenheim on Sunday afternoon, the return of the club's first-choice central defensive pairing will come as a welcome lift for a Wolfsburg side hovering just a point above the relegation play-off spot after eight matches.
