English sensation Jadon Sancho has lauded idol Marco Reus following the Borussia Dortmund captain’s match-winning performance in Wolfsburg.

For years, Dortmund nurtured Reus into one of the most exciting forwards in the world. The BVB captain is now doing his part in shaping the future of the Black-Yellows' next superstar.

"I look up to Marco Reus because he's a very big player - I look up to him like an idol," Sancho told Deutsche Welle at Wolfsburg's Volkswagen Arena. Enjoying his best ever start to a Bundesliga campaign with five goals and four assists to his name, Reus has been instrumental in BVB’s unbeaten start to 2018/19 and the four-point cushion they've engineered at the top of the table after 10 matches.

"It's good to have him on the pitch talking to me and giving me advice, because when he tells me things I listen," continued Sancho, whose impressive return of four goals and six assists has been headline-grabbing in its own right. "I just have to keep taking that advice and learning as a player."

Aged 18 and already striking fear into the hearts of opposition defenders, Sancho is sponging knowledge from one of Dortmund’s best ever, further vindicating the decision to push himself outside his comfort zone. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted that Sancho "didn’t want to stay, so what can we do? Nothing. So good luck and all the best."

"English players don’t like to leave home. I think it’s because they’re just not comfortable leaving their friends and family - which I don’t have a problem with. You’ve got to have a lot of balls to step up and say 'I want to do it. I want to fulfill my dream.'

"People progress in different ways. My way was to go abroad and show everyone what I have. I’m just showing people that there are other teams that are willing to play young players. Borussia Dortmund are one of those teams."

The competition for places in Lucien Favre’s dynamic Dortmund side is only further honing the natural talent that has already earned the winger his first England cap. For Sancho, "age is just a number"; it is the numbers on the pitch doing all the talking for a star carving out a glittering reputation among the elite.
