Kaan Ayhan's brace earns Fortuna Düsseldorf third win of the season against Freiburg

Kaan Ayhan's first and second goals of the season helped Fortuna Düsseldorf record only their third win of the season against Freiburg.

Freiburg started the game in the ascendancy in Düssledorf, although their possession high up the pitch and pressure with the ball didn’t produce a host of chances. Fortuna slowly began to work their way into the game, with the biggest opportunity of the first half falling with half an hour played as Kenan Karaman’s shot across goal was blocked behind by the Freiburg defence.

Fortuna began the second half as they had finished the first, and made the most of their pressure to take the lead 11 minutes into the second period as Ayhan rose highest from a set-piece to head past Alexander Schwolow with his first goal of the season. Benito Raman almost gave Düsseldorf a two-goal lead with 20 minutes to play, but his chance was cleared off the line. Takashi Asami also could’ve sealed the win with two chances in the final 20 minutes, but Schwolow was doing all he could to keep Freiburg in with a fighting chance. However, with 79 minutes played, Ayhan scored again with a flick towards goal following a corner to confirm his brace, and seal Fortuna’s third win of the season.
