Gelsenkirchen - Argentinian striker Franco Di Santo has joined FC Schalke 04 from Bundesliga rivals SV Werder Bremen.

Sane extends

The 26-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 49 Bundesliga games since moving to the Weserstadion on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic FC in August 2013, has penned a four-year deal valid until 30 June 2019.

"We're delighted Franco Di Santo has decided to join us," said sporting director Horst Heldt. "He's exactly the type of player we've wanted for our attack." The striker will meet his new team-mates at the club's mini training camp in Halle from 26-29 July, and could make a first appearance in Royal Blue in a friendly against FC Porto on 27 July.

Di Santo will be vying for a place in the Schalke attack with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and 19-year-old Leroy Sane, who agreed a two-year contract extension until 2019 earlier in the day.

"Leroy's an extremely talented player who showed how versatile he is last season," said Heldt. "Given his development and huge potential, we're delighted Leroy sees his future at Schalke."
