Davor Lovren's cultured left foot already has a place in Fortuna Düsseldorf folklore, but the 2017/18 Bundesliga 2 champions can expect to see a whole lot more of the up-and-coming Croatian schemer in the months ahead.
Club: Fortuna Düsseldorf
Lovren initially joined Fortuna on a two-year loan deal from Dinamo Zagreb in summer 2017. The 5'7" winger made 14 appearances over the course of 2017/18, scoring his only league goal in German football to date on his fifth appearance. He also posted a couple of assists, most notably setting up the title-clinching goal in Fortuna's winner-takes-all meeting with second-placed Nuremberg on the final day of the Bundesliga 2 season. The Croatia U19 international signed a permanent contract with the Rhineland club in July 2018.
Plays a bit like: Xherdan Shaqiri
Pacy, pint-sized and with a peach of a left peg, Lovren is a similar kind of player to former Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri - minus the thunder thighs and monster traps.
Did you know?
Davor is the younger brother of Croatia and Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. He was born in Munich in October 1998, five years after his family had fled war-torn Bosnia. The Lovrens were deported to Karlovac, Croatia in winter 1999.
What they're saying
"I keep a close eye on what my brother does at Liverpool. His achievements are a real motivation. I only use the negatives people say about him as a stepping stone." - Davor Lovren
"Davor will definitely play more in the coming season. He's capable of becoming a top Bundesliga player in the next two, three years." - Fortuna head coach Friedhelm Funkel
