Augsburg have signalled their intent to plan for the future by announcing that four key players have extended their contracts at the club.

Daniel Baier, Caiuby, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Philipp Max have all committed to Augsburg well in advance of their opening game of the new season at Hamburg on August 18th.

Baier, a 33-year-old midfielder who featured in 27 league games last season, has added another year to his deal. It will now run until 2019 and that means he will end up having spent a decade at the club.

Brazilian attacker Caiuby made only five appearances last term in the wake of a serious knee injury but the 29-year-old, who netted 11 goals in the 2015/16 campaign, has signed a two-year extension to his contract.

“I had a difficult time last season with my injury but I and my family feel incredibly happy at FCA,” Caiuby said.

“Augsburg has always supported me and given me the time I need to get fit again.

“That is why I want to pay them back with my performances on the pitch in the coming years.”

German left-back Max and Dutch centre back Gouweleeuw are both now tied to the club until June 2022.

“We are delighted that we have been able to get this done before the start of the new season and keep these four key players at FC Augsburg for the foreseeable future,” sporting director Stefan Reuter told the club’s website.

“Having a great spine to the team has allowed us to excel in recent years.”
