Hamburg's Wood up for U.S. Soccer Player of the Year award

Hamburger SV striker Bobby Wood has been nominated for the 2016 U.S. Soccer Player of the Year award.

The 24-year-old will go up against USMNT teammates Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Geoff Cameron and Michael Bradley.

In what has been a breakthrough year for the Honolulu native, Wood's 17-strike tally for former club 1. FC Union Berlin set a new record for the most goals in a single season by an American in Germany's top two divisions. He also found the net eight times in 29 appearances for the USMNT and has struck twice in 10 Bundesliga outings for HSV so far this term.

The winner will be announced on 9 December during FOX Sports' MLS Cup preview show.
