Incredible as it seems, the 2016/17 Bundesliga season is already drawing to a close, and as usual at the business end of a campaign, it is time to hand out the prizes. We want you to decide who is honoured by voting for the bundesliga.com Team of the Season.

Timo Werner(RB Leipzig)

Blink and you might miss Werner speeding across your television screens, so explosive is the Leipzig striker’s burst of pace. Bundesliga audiences first saw Werner at Stuttgart in 2013/14 when he was very much a raw talent. Now aged 21, his lethal finishing has fired Leipzig into an automatic Champions League spot, brought him goals home and away against the likes of Schalke and Gladbach and established himself as the club’s ‘senior’ striker.  After a first Germany call-up in March, he looks certain to be selected for this summer’s Confederations Cup.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

We are fast running out of superlatives to describe Bayern’s inimitable no9. He has continued to plunder goals this season across all competitions – including in ten consecutive European qualifiers for Poland – and his importance to Bayern was underlined when injury kept him out of the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid. Lewandowski scored ten times in four successive home games between February and April, and should he miss out on finishing top scorer, he can at least claim to have fired his team to yet another Bundesliga title, the Bavarians’ fifth in succession, which is a new record.

Mario Gomez (Wolfsburg)

Wolfsburg may have endured a season of upheaval – Andries Jonker is the third coach to occupy the hotseat – but they can at least count on Gomez doing what he does best. His overall contribution may be eclipsed by other forwards in the league, but few can match the veteran’s reliability in front of goal. He has scored the winning goal in four matches, while he also netted eight times in seven games in March and April. He has been worth his weight in gold to a beleaguered wolf pack this term.
