USA striker Bobby Wood opened his account for Hannover on Saturday, scoring the first two goals in Die Roten’s match at home to VfB Stuttgart.

The 25-year-old USMNT star made the brave decision to swap relegated Hamburg for their northern rivals Hannover in the summer, but has hitherto struggled to displace last season’s top scorer at the HDI-Arena, Niclas Füllkrug.

Playing in conjunction with his fellow striker on Saturday, Wood was quickest off the mark against the Swabians, though, glancing home Miiko Albornoz’s cross on the half-hour. Another header on the stroke of half-time took Wood’s all-time Bundesliga tally to nine.

Wood is one of six Germany-based players called up by Dave Sarachan for the USA’s friendlies against Colombia and Peru over the international break. With 12 goals in 41 appearances with the US, Wood can be confident of building on his form before returning for Hannover’s match at Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 8.
