Seeking to inflict a first away defeat of the season on visitors Augsburg, Leipzig hit the front in the early stages, Emil Forsberg smashing home at the near post after goalkeeper Marwin Hitz could only parry Marcel Sabitzer's low drive from distance. Dirk Schuster’s side rallied and were on terms within three minutes. Collecting possession on the right, Dong-Won Ji entered Leipzig’s area, calmly switched the ball to his left and arced a sumptuous shot high past Peter Gulacsi.

Their confidence undeterred after conceding for only a second time at home in the Bundesliga this term, Leipzig hit back after the break. Following some fine build-up play, Sabitzer's pass with the outside of the boot fizzed through to Yussuf Poulsen and the Danish international blasted high past Hitz for 2-1. It could have become even better for the Bundesliga debutants soon after had Timo Werner decided to lay off a pass to the waiting Poulsen instead of shooting off target. The miss mattered little, however, with Leipzig holding on to celebrate a famous win.

Talking Point

Playing with confidence and verve, Leipzig appear undaunted in this, their first foray into Germany's top flight. Having extended their unbeaten run to six games, Ralph Hasenhüttl's team can start to dream of lofty achievements this term.
