Ralf Fährmann (Schalke goalkeeper): "I did rather well tonight… (laughs) It’s a great feeling! We fought hard and gave it our all. Gladbach were the superior side, however, no doubt about it."

Andre Breitenreiter (Schalke head coach): "Ralf Fährmann made some unbelievable saves tonight. We got lucky to beat Gladbach. They’re a really strong side. They’re very agile and difficult to stop. [Leroy Sane] gave a great answer [after sitting on the bench in the previous encounters]. Leon [Goretzka] made a great comeback tonight."

Yann Sommer (Gladbach goalkeeper): "It’s a really annoying defeat. You shouldn't lose this kind of game. We were really unlucky conceding two goals. I’m incredibly frustrated. We have to win our next match after the international break."

Granit Xhaka (Gladbach captain): "I’m lost for words, which says everything. Everyone watching the game knows that the luckier side took the three points. We’re the ones to blame, though. Schalke had two efforts on goal tonight. We more or less beat ourselves tonight."

Andre Schubert (Gladbach head coach): "I’m proud of my team. I’m not blaming my players for not converting their chances. It’s difficult to explain how the ball didn’t go in on so many occasions."
