Mitchell Weiser tore a thigh muscle while playing in Germany U21s 1-0 win over England last week and he could be out for up to a month.

Troubled by a sinus infection before USA’s 6-0 World Cup qualifying rout of Honduras, John Anthony Brooks was released from international duty early. He played in that game though, so he should be ready to face Hoffenheim.

Ivorian attacker Salomon Kalou went off in the first half of the 4-2 defeat against Cologne last time out but his thigh problem could clear up in time to feature this weekend.

Hoffenheim have a full squad to choose from with Kevin Vogt back from suspension and likely to return to their three-man backline. Czech wing-back Pavel Kaderabek is back in training after missing the past four matches with a calf injury, although it remains to be seen if he is ready to start against Hertha.

The same goes for Mark Uth, who is nearing full fitness after missing five games since hurting his ribs in the Matchday 20 defeat at Wolfsburg.

Kerem Demirbay has a facial injury but has been training with a protective mask, while Nadiem Amiri is pushing for a recall to the starting XI after he scored the only goal in the German U21 team’s victory against England.
