Werder Bremen’s late-season revival appears to be in full swing now, and that’s in no small part down to winter signing Thomas Delaney, who scored his first-ever professional hat-trick in the 5-2 win at Freiburg on Matchday 26.
The midfielder was constantly in the right place at the right time as he slotted home Santiago Garcia’s left-wing cross before half-time, and later tucked away two well-placed headers to move the northern club three points clear of the relegation play-off place.
The Denmark international was also the architect for Fin Bartels’ goal to make it 4-1 as Werder scored five away from home for the first time since February 2010.
