It was almost beyond belief: a hat-trick within seven minutes from VfL Wolfsburg striker Mario Gomez - a.k.a. Mister Bundesliga - so very nearly brought the house crashing down on Bayer Leverkusen.
He fired one warning, and then another before setting about Leverkusen’s 2-0 lead with fearsome voracity. A couple of well-placed headers in the final ten minutes bringing the visitors level, Super Mario then netted a penalty that had the Wolves howling with delight.
A late equaliser denied Andries Jonker’s charges maximum points in the end but won’t take away from Gomez’s gargantuan goalscoring feats. The only question now is, will you vote the forward this week’s #BLMVP?
