Eintracht Frankfurt captain Marco Russ returned to the starting line-up for the first time in ten months when he lined up a 0-0 draw against Hamburg on Matchday 25.
Russ was diagnosed with testicular cancer in May 2016 and it was not certain he would be able to play football again. After successful treatment and a long programme of rehabilitation, however, the 31-year-old is back and managed 80 minutes on Saturday night.
Anchoring Eintracht’s defence in a three-man backline, Russ helped the Eagles thwart many a Hamburg attack - no mean feat in the form HSV have been in in recent weeks.
