FC Schalke 04 defender Atsuto Uchida could be out for the rest of the season with a long-term knee injury, head coach Andre Breitenreiter confirmed on Tuesday.

"Atsuto will spend some more time in Japan," said Breitenreiter at his press conference prior to the Royal Blues' clash against Hamburger SV at the VELTINS Arena on Matchday 24. "It is highly doubtful that he will feature again this season."

The 74-time Japan international, 27, has yet to feature for Schalke this season after undergoing an operation on his patellar tendon last summer.
