Aytac Sulu was the defensive rock upon which Darmstadt built their fourth win of the season, beating Mainz 2-1. The Lilies captain also scored the opening goal at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor.
Darmstadt sported special one-off kits in honour of Johnny Heimes, the D98 fan who captured hearts and minds before losing his long battle with cancer in March, and the player did his honour proud.
Sulu headed Torsten Frings’ men into an early lead from a Mario Vrancic corner before a Sidney Sam penalty proved too much for the 05ers to come back from, although they did manage to put a blemish om the scoreline through debutant Robin Quaison.
