Bremen captain Clemens Fritz is back in contention for the Green-Whites after missing the 2-1 win at Wolfsburg last Friday with a suspension. Thomas Delaney, who scored one of the goals of the season with a free-kick in the 2-0 win at Mainz two weeks ago, has a facial injury, so Florian Grillitsch is expected to start at the heart of the Werder midfield.

Torsten Frings was a Bundesliga runner-up in 2008 when he played in the centre of the park for Bremen, scoring four goals in his 30 games that term. He returns as Darmstadt coach with a near-full strength team to call upon. Hamit Altintop had a muscular strain in midweek, but has returned to full training.
