Freiburg coach Christian Streich is likely to opt for an attacking 4-4-2 formation against Dortmund. The game comes too soon for on-loan BVB defender Pascal Stenzel, who continues to recover from injury, but Mike Frantz and Florian Niederlechner should be restored to the starting line-up. Janik Haberer, on the other hand, misses out with suspension. After beating 1. FC Cologne and drawing with Hamburg, Freiburg will be looking to boost their European hopes at the Schwarzwald-Stadion, where they have claimed seven of their nine wins this season.

Given Dortmund's struggles for consistency this campaign, coach Thomas Tuchel will have been impressed with their comfortable 3-0 dismissal of VfL Wolfsburg last time out. Lukasz Piszczek put in a star turn for Die Schwarzgelben, with a goal and two assists. There could be a couple of changes for the trip to Freiburg, with Sokratis potentially returning from illness in place of Matthias Ginter, and Raphael Guerreiro coming in for Andre Schürrle in midfield. Mario Götze, though, has been ruled out with an adductor injury.
