Josip Drmic described the visit of former club Borussia Mönchengladbach to new side Hamburger SV as 'special', whilst his teammates were delighted with the 3-2 win - their first of 2016.

Hamburger SV 3-2 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Goals: 0-1 Johnson (14'), 1-1 Hinteregger o.g. (39'), 2-1 Rudnevs (41'), 3-1 Ilicevic (79'), 3-2 Raffael (87')

Ivo Ilicevic (HSV winger, pictured, l.): "There are still a lot of games to be played this season, but today was an important step for us."

Lewis Holtby (HSV midfielder, pictured, r.): "I thought we did really well. In the past we’ve let these types of opportunities slip away, but we kept our composure today and came away with the win."

Aaron Hunt (HSV midfielder): "We deserved to win today. We showed a lot of passion and the right attitude."

Andre Schubert (Gladbach head coach): "We were quick off the marks and we needed to continue in that vein. We weren’t able to do that. We were too careless and gifted Hamburg too goals. We didn’t find our way back into the game after that. Borussia Dortmund lost here 3-1 too, but it’s the same old story. We were too careless and too sloppy in our build-up play."

Granit Xhaka (Gladbach midfielder): "We started very well and took the lead, but then we conceded two silly goals before half time. We did a lot right in the second half, but we woke up a little too late today. We know that Hamburg are a good team. We need to learn from our mistakes and keep going."

Lars Stindl (Gladbach midielder): "It’s difficult to explain how we lost today. We’re very disappointed."

Max Eberl (Gladbach sporting director): "We gave away our lead cheaply which is terribly annoying."
