Die Fuggerstädter, who face FC Ingolstadt 04 on Matchday 20 and welcome Liverpool FC on 18 February in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old, who has featured in 18 of the club’s 19 Bundesliga games this season, will not undergo an operation but will instead be treated by the club’s medical department. The ankle's response to this treatment will determine the length of Baier’s absence.

There was, however, some good news for club coach Markus Weinzierl on the injury front with long-term absentee Tobias Werner returning to first-team training on Tuesday.
