Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez vowed fans will see an improved Bayer 04 Leverkusen next weekend after Die Werkself were slow out of the Rückrunde blocks.

Report: Hoffenheim 1-1 Leverkusen

Roger Schmidt's side were left frustrated by their sluggish display in a 1-1 draw at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, but the Mexico international promised Matchday 19 will not follow the same script.

"We’ll do better against Hannover next week," said 'Chicharito' after Leverkusen took a point from the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena thanks to Ömer Toprak's 75th-minute equaliser.

The hosts went ahead in the 40th minute through Jiloan Hamad, after which Hernandez was denied a goal on several occasions by an inspired performance from Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.

"He's a very good goalkeeper," said Hernandez, whose three-game scoring run came to an end. "There are no easy games in the Bundesliga."

It has now been over four months since Leverkusen have won a match in which 'Chicharito' has failed to score, although coach Schmidt was not overly concerned by that statistic.

"We would really have liked to win," said Schmidt, whose side remain fifth after failing to take advantage of a favourable set of results on Matchday 18. "That was still possible right until the end of the game. After we equalised, victory was still within our grasp. We had enough chances to win but the goalkeeper had a very good game. For that reason, we’ll have to live with the point."
