The Bundesliga is back and so too is Official Fantasy Bundesliga, but is your team already in place for when the ball gets rolling again?
If not, there is no need to panic. The transfer window closes at kick-off of SC Freiburg vs FC Bayern München on Friday night (20:30CET/19:30GMT) and so you still have time to put the finishing touches to your team.
That is what many fantasy managers have been doing during the winter break, bringing in new faces who could make an immediate impact – such as the three suggested below by our expert scout:
Timothee Kolodziejczak (Borussia Mönchengladbach, 10M)
He may have one of the most difficult names to pronounce, but that is the least of the problems his opponents face. The 25-year-old has a wealth of international experience which he can bring to the table immediately for Borussia, starting on his debut in Darmstadt, where the Lilies are hardly renowned for ripping holes in their opponents' net. Only few have already drafted 'Kolo', as he is more familarly known, into their Official Fantasy Bundesliga teams so he could prove to be something of a secret weapon, and at just 10M, he comes in as quite a bargain.
Christian Clemens (1. FC Köln, 8,7M)
Commentators for 1. FC Köln's clash with 1. FSV Mainz 05 are bound to have put a red circle around one name as Christian Clemens makes his debut for his new club precisely where he was at the end of 2016. The lightning-fast, potent midfielder has been bought back by Köln to make a difference after spending much of the first half of the season on the bench in Mainz – a fact which has seen his Fantasy price drop by 1.3M to an extremely appealing 8.7M. That makes him a particularly interesting choice, particularly since he seems set to be a regular for the Billy Goats, and only few managers have him in their squad.
Guido Burgstaller (FC Schalke 04, 8M)
Schalke's sporting director Christian Heidel moved quickly to cover a shortage of attackers by signing Guido Burgstaller from Bundesliga 2 outfit 1. FC Nürnberg. The 27-year-old Austrian forward has scored 27 times already in Germany's second division, so he will not be in need of any guidance as to where the goal is, while his strong frame means that not only is he hard to shake off the ball, but that he is quite a dab hand at winning it too: he averaged over nine successful challenges per 90 minutes for the Bavarians, and tended to take around four shots on goal. For just 8M, Burgstaller could prove to be a Fantasy bargain.
So, three players who start 2017 at new clubs and with points to prove could well be putting points in your Official Fantasy Bundesliga team.
