FC Bayern München came through their toughest test yet this season according to head coach Pep Guardiola after they scraped a 2-0 win over FC Ingolstadt 04 to clinch the Herbstmeisterschaft on Matchday 16.

FC Bayern München 2-0 FC Ingolstadt 04

Goals: 1-0 Lewandowski (65’), 2-0 Lahm (75’)

Pep Guardiola (Bayern coach): "I've got to pay my team a huge compliment, but I also have to pay Ralph [Hasenhüttl] and his Ingolstadt side a compliment for their courageous game. They're the best team we've played against this season. We had problems getting our game going for a long time, but that then improved, also with Thiago [Alcantara] coming on. In the end, our quality made the difference. I'd also like to mention Joshua [Kimmich], who showed why he deserves to play for Bayern in years to come."

Philipp Lahm (Bayern captain): "Ingolstadt put us under pressure right from the start and we didn't play with energy. We can learn from that – we always need to have that and willingness, then we cause any opponents problems. We've got a few players out injured and that means we can't rotate as we would like, but that's not an excuse."

Ralph Hasenhüttl (Ingolstadt coach): "It was a very interesting game for the fans. Up to their first goal, we had done everything right. We were extremely courageous and always attacked. We managed to cause our opponents problems and it was a great performance from my team. I certainly believe we've earned a bit of respect today."

Stefan Lex (Ingolstadt forward): "I think up until their first goal, we played a really good game and caused Bayern problems, which they've not had very often this season. I had two chances to put us in front, but unfortunately didn't take them. We said before the game that we wanted to see if we could get anything and I think, although we're a bit disappointed with the result, we saw that if we put everything we've got into it, then we can even hold our own with Bayern."

Ramazan Özcan (Ingolstadt goalkeeper): "It's a pity that the result doesn't really reflect the game. Both goals were disappointing – I was able to deny Robert Lewandowski with my fingertips in the first half, but couldn't in the second. We maybe could have got something had we taken our chances, but I think we nevertheless played a really good game today."
