Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac will be hoping to celebrate his recent contract extension by inflicting a first Bundesliga defeat of the season on Hoffenheim. Marco Fabian returns after suspension and is likely to replace Branimir Hrgota, who scored in last week's draw with FC Augsburg – although Kovac could also choose to rest Alexander Meier or Mijat Gacinovic. The game comes too soon for Shani Tarashaj, who is back in training after tonsil surgery.

Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Kerem Demirbay is still unavailable, as he continues to recover from a thigh injury. Andrej Kramaric may be kept out by an ankle complaint, in which case Mark Uth – who netted from the bench in last week's 4-0 dismissal of 1. FC Köln – is likely to start. Uth would also come in if Nagelsmann opted for a 3-4-3 formation, replacing either Nadiem Amiri, Jeremy Toljan or Lukas Rupp, who is available after missing the Köln game through illness.
