Ahead of their relegation six-pointer against Hamburger SV, there are lots of questions concerning the fitness of SV Darmstadt 98 midfielder Änis Ben-Hatira, who has been struggling with swelling in his ankle. Should the 28-year-old not be able to recover in time then Laszlo Kleinheisler and Mario Vrancic will vie for the spot in behind the striker. Jerome Gondorf could also be deployed in a holding midfield role.

Filip Kostic (flu) and Nicolai Müller (thigh) both returned to training on Thursday after being absent from first-team affairs earlier in the week and should, therefore retain, their places in the Hamburg starting line-up. Head coach Markus Gisdol said that USMNT striker Bobby Wood "could be an option" after returning from suspension, but is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench along with fellow returnee Albin Ekdal. Emir Spahic is still out of contention, while Alen Halilovic is out for two to three weeks after straining ligaments in his knee.
