- Lewandowski has netted nine in 11 appearances against Mainz.
- Reus has had a hand in six goals in six outings vs. Gladbach.
- Wolves struggling for form, but Gomez enjoys playing against Hertha.
FC Schalke 04’s Alessandro Schöpf turned a decent fantasy weekend into a very good one for my side on Matchday 12. The Austria international’s late goal against SV Darmstadt 98 lifted his overall tally on Sunday to 10 points - or 20 if you made him captain. Not that I know anyone who did that…
It wasn’t enough to beat James in Project 50 but I was pleased, nonetheless. I need to up my game this week, though, and these four players might help me do just that:
Robert Lewandowski (16.15M, vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05)
With just to goals in his last nine league appearances, Lewandowski has hit something of a dry spell by his considerable standards. The FC Bayern München star clearly loves playing against Mainz, though, having bagged nine goals in his last 11 outings against the Zerofivers. If you’ve been thinking of dropping Lewandowski from your XI, you might want to reconsider…
Marco Reus (13.9M, vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach)
After making his first Bundesliga appearance of the season on Matchday 12, Reus could be in line to start against former club Gladbach at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on Saturday. The Borussia Dortmund man has come back to haunt his former employers on more than one occasion, scoring four and setting up another two in his last six appearances against the out-of-form Foals, who have lost four of their five away games this season.
Mario Gomez (12.2M, vs. Hertha Berlin)
VfL Wolfsburg are another team in desperate need of a morale-boosting victory. The Wolves sit just two points above the Bundesliga’s relegation play-off place going into Saturday’s clash with Hertha Berlin, but Wolves fans can take heart from Gomez’s record against Hertha: The former Germany international has had a hand in six goals in his three most recent games against the Old Lady (four goals, two assists), but is that enough to earn him place in your Fantasy side?
Paul Verhaegh (10.6M, vs. Eintracht Frankfurt)
Verhaegh has never scored against Frankfurt, but neither has the Dutch international ever lost against the Eagles in the Bundesliga. FC Augsburg have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three league matches, so bringing in Die Fuggerstädter's skipper ahead of Matchday 12 might not be the worst decision in the world. After all, he has a decent record from the penalty spot, too…
