Fabian Frei has returned to training and he is an alternative to Andre Ramalho, who made his season's debut in Leipzig on Matchday 10, for a place in front of the defence. Mainz warmed up for the Bundesliga restart with a 3-0 win over local side Karbach, with Jairo Samperio, Philipp Klement and Jhon Cordoba all on target. Christian Streich gave 18 players a run-out in that fixture.

Freiburg also played a friendly during the international break, winning 5-1 at Bundesliga 2 side SV Sandhausen. Marc Torrejon is regaining full fitness after a two-month spell on the sidelines and he could follow up his substitute appearance against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with a start on Matchday 11. Coach Christian Streich was also boosted by the early returns of Amir Abrashi and Caglar Söyüncü from international duty – they have been in training with the team since Monday.
