Goals: 0-1 Bobadilla (86'), 0-2 Altintop (90')

Both teams came out with plenty of fire at the Audi Sportpark, with Ji Dong-Won testing Ingolstadt’s new goalkeeper Martin Hansen early, and Stefan Lex doing the same to Marwin Hitz at the other end. Augsburg began to find the upper hand as the half wore on, and Dominik Kohr rattled the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the area. Kostas Stafylidis then forced a fingertip save out of Hansen with a thumping effort. Koo Ja-Cheol shot wide with the half drawing to a close and they sides went into the interval with the scores at 0-0.

In an effort to freshen up the attack, FCI coach Markus Kauczinski brought on Dario Lezcano for Lukas Hinterseer but Hansen wasn’t tested until the 68th minute when Ji fired a shot straight at the Dane. The action picked up in the final stretch, though, with substitute Bobadilla scoring a beatifully struck free-kick four minutes from time before teeing up Halil Altintop to complete the scoring at 2-1.

Talking Point

While Ingolstadt's effort in front of a feisty home crowd was exemplary, they had too many errant touches and poor crosses, blunting their attack. FCI didn't look much like scoring for most of the match, and only stayed in it because Augsburg took a long time to warm up themselves. The visitors' lethal closing minutes changed all that, and Kauczinski will have much to ponder after this loss.
