James Rodriguez made his Bayern Munich debut as the record German champions won their fourth Telekom Cup with victory over Werder Bremen in Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

The Real Madrid loanee put in a lively display as goals from Thomas Müller and Juan Bernat fired the Reds to victory in the final of the four-team 45-minute match tournament.

"I'm very happy," James said after the Bremen game. "I feel good, but I've only been here for five days. I'll slowly get fitter and fitter. That's what the trip to China is for. We played two decent games, but what matters is winning major titles. We'll work hard to make sure we do."

Fellow newcomer Corentin Tolisso was handed his first start in Bayern's opening encounter of the afternoon against Hoffenheim, with a fine Robert Lewandowski strike enough to send the defending Bundesliga champions into the final.

Tournament hosts Borussia Mönchengladbach finished fourth after losing to both Bremen and Hoffenheim on penalties.

Pre-season silverware in hand, James travels to China and Singapore for Bayern's 12-day Bundesliga World Tour on Sunday (16 July).
