Bayern Munich 1-0 Darmstadt

Goals: 1-0 Bernat (18')

Carlo Ancelotti's charges may have wrapped up a fifth successive league title last week but they were in no mood to show bottom club Darmstadt any mercy. The hosts controlled the game from the off and although the visitors defended well, Bayern took the lead through Juan Bernat, who skillfully side-stepped his marker in the box before curling into the net with the outside of his left boot.

The match followed a similar pattern after the break, with Bayern comfortably holding on to the ball as they probed their visitors' penalty area. Former Bayern attacker Hamit Altintop had the chance to give Darmstadt hope late on when the guests were awarded a penalty for a trip on substitute Sven Schipplock. However, Altintop's spot-kick was tame and Tom Starke was able to save, compounding an afternoon of disappointment for coach Torsten Frings' men.

Man of the match

At 34, Franck Ribery was the oldest outfield player on the pitch here but he did not look it. The Frenchman was at his menacing best on the wing, constantly probing at pace with mazy dribbles. He made more sprints (38) than anyone else and provided the assist for Bernat's opener.

Talking point

Having fended off relegation for three weeks with three successive victories prior to this game, Darmstadt's fate has finally been sealed and they will play in the second division next season. Seven wins and two draws all term just haven't been enough for the Lilies.
