The 33-year-old, who scored 13 goals and registered 12 assists during a stunning 2016/17 Bundesliga campaign, sustained the right calf muscle problem while on holiday.

Instead of jetting off to Asia with the rest of Carlo Ancelotti's title-winning squad on Sunday, the Netherlands international will remain at the club's Säbener Straße training base in a bid to recover full fitness as quickly as possible with the champions kicking off the season at home to Leverkusen on 18 August.

Robben is not the only major name missing from the trip, which lasts from 16 to 28 July.

Goalkeepers Manuel Neuer, who is recovering from a broken foot, and Sven Ulreich, working his way back to fitness after an elbow problem, will also miss the scheduled friendlies against Arsenal and AC Milan in China, and Chelsea and Inter Milan in Singapore.

Joshua Kimmich, Sebastian Rudy, Niklas Süle, and Arturo Vidal, who were all involved in their countries' FIFA Confederations Cup challenges, and new signing Serge Gnabry, who featured in Germany's U21 EURO-winning squad, are also absent. However, James Rodriguez will travel with his new team-mates on their tour of the Far East.
