It was a case of 'remember me?' as former Cologne striker Anthony Modeste filed in with the crowd to watch the Billy Goats take on RB Leipzig, just four and a half months after the French forward bid farewell to the carnival club.

The 29-year-old is currently based in China, where he is making more headlines for his scoring exploits with new club Tianjin Quanjian. Yet during a sensational two seasons in North Rhine-Westphalia, Modeste won the hearts of Cologne fans who are back competing in European competition this term thanks, in large part, to the Frenchman's goals in 2016/17.

In his first season with Peter Stöger's side, Modeste scored 15 goals in 34 Bundesliga games. He went on to increase that tally to 25 goals in 34 German top-flight matches last term as Cologne finished a memorable campaign in fifth place, earning a return to European competition for the first time in 25 years.

Prior to signing for the Billy Goats, the former Nice, Angers, Bordeaux, Blackburn Rovers and Bastia forward netted 23 times in 62 appearances for Hoffenheim. His brief return to Germany and Cologne offered a welcome lift to the city's football giants, who have endured a difficult start to the 2017/18 season.
