FC Schalke 04 and 1. FSV Mainz 05 were the only Bundesliga sides in action today, and although both picked up positive results, there is still plenty of room for improvement. The Royal Blues had to come from behind to beat Vfl Osnabrück 3-2, while Mainz let a 1-0 lead slip against AS Saint -Etienne, eventually drawing 1-1. A day after signing for Hertha, Czech Republic midfielder Vladimir Darida (front, 3rd l.) has teamed up with his new side in their Austria training camp. The former Freiburg man and Berlin have agreed terms over a four-year deal, it was confirmed yesterday.

Switzerland goalkeeper Marwin Hitz has put pen on paper on a two-year contract extension at Europa League participants FC Augsburg. "I'm looking forward to taking on new challenges with FCA," said the 27-year-old, who joined the Bavarian side from VfL Wolfsburg in 2013.

Salomon Kalou (l.) and his Berlin team-mates - including winger Nico Schulz, who has returned from his extended summer break after being involved at the Under-21 Euros - have come together at the capital's Tegel Airport this morning. Hertha will be spending eight days in Schladming, Austria, as they gear up for the upcoming season.
