Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund have pulled off a major coup by sealing a summer deal for Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Gonzalo Castro on a free transfer.

Versatile and loyal

The 27-year-old, out of contract in the summer, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Borussia, bringing an end to his 16-year association with the Werkself.

"We're delighted," enthused BVB sporting director Michael Zorc. "In Gonzalo Castro we've acquired an experienced, technically adept midfielder who can play in a number of positions."

Castro has been a virtual ever-present in the Leverkusen team for over a decade, having debuted for the club back in January 2005 in a 2-1 win over Hannover 96. He has since gone on to make 285 top-flight appearances for Bayer, scoring 25 goals, including two in 21 league games this season. He also scored twice in 20 UEFA Champions League appearances and is a five-time Germany international.

Gonzalo Castro will join Borussia Dortmund and has signed a four-year deal lasting until 30.6.2019 with BVB.
