Cologne - Robert Lewandowski has won bundesliga.com's April Goal of the Month award for his spectacular volley against Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 28.

'That's football!'

Latching onto Thomas Müller's flick-on, Lewandowski looped the ball over an unsuspecting Eintracht defender's head before hammering an unstoppable shot past Kevin Trapp and into the top left-hand corner from just inside the box.

"A goal's a goal, regardless of how or when you score it," said a modest Lewandowski at full time, having taken his personal tally for the campaign to 16 goals with a second-half header against the Eagles at the Allianz Arena. "Sometimes you can't explain why you have a run and score more goals than you do at other times - that's football!"

The Polish international's strike, which earned an astonishing 86 per cent of bundesliga.com users' votes, helped Bayern seal a comfortable 3-0 victory over Frankfurt - a result which saw them edge to within six points of their 25th Bundesliga title with six games left to play. A 2-0 success at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 29, followed by a 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin secured their third successive championship crown on 25 April.

Top of the shots?

Although he has failed to find the net in the league since, the 2013/14 Torjägerkanone winner is just three goals shy of current top scorer Alexander Meier (19), who has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury. Four goals in the final two games of the season could see the 26-year-old become the first player since Ulf Kirsten in 1997/98 to retain the top scorer's crown.
