Paderborn – It cannot be said that SC Paderborn did not give it all they could in their 3-1 loss to VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 32, but that proved not to be enough against the current second force in German football.

VfL Wolfsburg

It leaves the East Westphalians with just two more chances to preserve their Bundesliga status while Wolfsburg, having secured their place in the top three at least, are now concerned with holding off Borussia Mönchengladbach's challenge to finish runners-up to FC Bayern.

bundesliga.com has the post-match reaction from the Benteler-Arena.

Timm Klose: "Of course it's something special because I had my birthday yesterday too. It was a great present for me. I was already celebrating and didn't realise they hadn't already given the goal. But it's all good. There have been plenty of highs and lows in my career and I wanted to make my contribution here. I never gave up. Of course we're delighted to have made it in the Champions League, but now we've got two games to secure second spot and we want to bring the season to a successful ending, before going on to win the cup."

Bas Dost: "It was a great win. It's going to be tough to win the Torjägerkanone - I had too long a period in which I didn't get a goal, but I'm obviously happy now. I think we had plenty of chances and we have the quality to score goals. The coach told us at half-time not to throw it away and I think we did a great job. I know I play for a very good team and we're second and I'm delighted if we get some new strikers in. I'm happy, I've scored 16 goals and we'll see how things go next year."

Uwe Hünemeier: "We've proven that we can deal with the situation and we can take some confidence into our next game. We've got Schalke up next and we've now got to focus on winning that game."
