Cologne - Bayer 04 Leverkusen remain on course to secure an automatic UEFA Champions League berth next season after a stunning 2-0 victory over FC Bayern München on Matchday 31 - a win spearheaded by Hakan Calhanoglu, who duly won bundesliga.com's Player of the Week award.

The 21-year-old set-piece specialist scored the crucial opener with an exquisite 25-yard free-kick at the BayArena, breaking Bayern's resistance and paving the way for the Werkself's triumph, with the Turkish international confirming his standout form and hoarding an impressive 58 per cent of the votes.

Big performances at the bottom

Second in the poll with 22 per cent of the ballot was SC Paderborn midfielder Lukas Rupp, whose clinical finishing helped his side turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win over fellow relegation strugglers SC Freiburg. It was also the first time a Paderborn player had haver scored a brace in the Bundesliga.

Rupp narrowly edged out Hannover 96 defender Salif Sane (20 per cent), who was inspirational in helping the Reds draw 2-2 away to VfL Wolfsburg. The Senegalese defender does, however, have the consolation of winning the Matchday 31 Goal of the Week vote.
