Mainz – A serious knee injury to 1. FSV Mainz 05's Elkin Soto - rather than the 2-1 defeat to Hamburger SV - was the main talking point at the Coface Arena on Sunday.

1. FSV Mainz 05

bundesliga.com collates some of the post-match thoughts from both camps...

Johannes Geis: "Our thoughts are with Elkin. The defeat means absolutely nothing to us with that in mind. [His injury] really knocked us off course. When a team-mate picks up an injury like that so close to the end of their career, then really I'm lost for words."

Yunus Malli: "It was a very tough game with many fouls and a lot of rough and tumble. We really wanted to build on [last weekend's 2-0 victory over FC Schalke 04], but we've lost 2-1 we're all very disappointed."

Hamburger SV

Rafael van der Vaart: "I'm so terribly sorry [for Soto's injury], but there was absolutely no intention and it wasn't a foul either. He just put his leg between mine and overstretched."

Gojko Kacar: "I wanted the ball from the corner, but I didn't really hit it well first time. At least I struck it better at the second attempt, and I'm delighted that it was the winning goal. It's a dream to score this goal. I always believed I would get by chance, and today I took it."

Heiko Westermann: "You could see that we're doing a lot more as a team again and that is how you also get to win games. But we're not done yet. Our next final is just around the corner."

For all the joy of this 2-1 win, the injury to Elkin has also shocked us. We wish him all the best.
