Gündogan declines Dortmund contract extension
Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündogan has refused the offer of a contract extension at the club.
The 24-year-old, whose present deal is set to expire at the end of June 2016 after penning an extension in April last year, joined from 1. FC Nürnberg in July 2011 and has since developed into one of the most sought-after deep-lying playmakers in the game.
Gündogan spent over a year on the sidelines recovering from a persistent back complaint, missing almost the entire 2013/14 season, and made his long-awaited return on Matchday 8 against 1. FC Köln in October last year.
Dortmund announced the news on Thursday via their official Twitter account:
"Borussia Dortmund and Ilkay Gündogan will not continue their working relationship beyond 30 June 2016."
