Cologne - 's free-kick deceived everybody inside the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday, but it did not escape the attentions of bundesliga.com's avid followers.

The Swiss star's curling effort from fully 40 metres was voted bundesliga.com's Goal of the Week for Matchday 27, picking up 49 per cent of the vote - more than double that of his nearest challenger Andre Schürrle following his first goal in a Wolfsburg shirt.

Prolific defenders

The Swiss full-back sent the set-piece into the danger area where fellow defender was lurking. The Brazilian did not get the touch, which would have got him his eighth goal of the season, but it was not necessary either as the ball found its way past Sven Ulreich.

Wolfsburg's two rearguard buddies now lead the way in terms of goals from defenders this season with six apiece. In the same game, Schürrle netted his long-overdue first for the club, with the Wolves showing their goals can come from anywhere and anybody.

Best of the rest

ended a 352-day drought with a precious goal for Hannover in their 2-2 draw with Frankfurt, earning him 14 per cent of the vote, ahead of one of Stefan Kießling's two efforts against Hamburger SV (nine per cent). Finally, Nico Schulz took six per cent of the vote as he helped Hertha Berlin to all three points against Paderborn.
