Fährmann set for Royal Blues return

Gelsenkirchen - looks to be on the verge of a return to action for FC Schalke 04 after completing a first-team training session for the first time since tearing cruciate knee ligaments in January.

The 26-year-old keeper emerged from Monday's session unscathed and could potentially be in a line for a first-team return on 5 April, when Schalke take on Augsburg at the SGL Arena.

With Fährmann's understudy waylaid by an adductor injury, the Schalke goal has been kept in recent weeks by 19-year-old Timon Wellenreuther. The rookie made his debut against FC Bayern München and appeared in both legs of Schalke's ill-fated UEFA Champions League last-16 tie with Real Madrid CF.

Meanwhile, defender Kaan Ayhan has been ruled out for several weeks after picking up a capsular ligament injury in Turkey Under-21's 2-0 friendly victory over Denmark last Friday. It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will recover his fitness before the end of the season.
