Zürich - FC Bayern München and Germany No. 1 Manuel Neuer could retain his place in the FIFA FIFPro World XI after being shortlisted for the 2014 edition.

The 28-year-old played a key part in his club’s double-winning 2013/14 campaign, as well as Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup triumph where a streak of standout performances earned the former FC Schalke 04 custodian the for the tournament’s best goalkeeper.

Five candidates


Neuer, as well as his Bayern club-mates Philipp Lahm and Franck Ribery, were all named in the global superteam last year.

Neuer has been shortlisted along with Claudio Bravo (Chile), Thibaut Courtois (Belgium), Iker Casillas (Spain) and Gianluigi Buffon (Italy). FIFA are to announce the shortlists for defenders, midfielders and forwards on 26 November, 28 November and 1 December respectively.
